About Us

The Teacher Orientation and Preparation Program (TOPP) is a State Board of Educator Certification approved alternative route to teacher certification coordinated by Education Service Center, Region 20. TOPP began providing services in 1986 and maintains a trustworthy and enduring reputation with our educational partners.

  • Step 1: Jump Start Online Training – $200

    • 70+ hours of interactive online courses
      • Self-paced program hours
    • 30 hours- Field Based Experience
      • 15 in-class hours actively engaged in instructional or educational activities 
      • 15 online hours of classroom observations

     

    Step 2: Classroom Foundation Training – $650 (Payment Plan Available)

    • 70+ hours of face-to-face instruction
    • Classroom management
    • Instructional design and delivery
    • Reading foundations and strategies
    • ELPS Training
    • Test preparation to increase marketability (No additional cost)
      • Bilingual
      • EC-12 Special Education
      • English as a Second Language Supplemental

     

    Step 3: Student Needs Training – $650 (Payment Plan Available)

    • 60+ hours of face-to-face training - 1 week Institute  + 6 summer Saturdays
    • Mental Health 
    • English language learners
    • Special populations

     

    Step 4: Paid Internship - $3,700 (Payment Plan Available)

    • Paid internship
    • Fee incurred upon obtaining full-time teaching position
    • Internship support:
      • Field Supervisor
      • Campus Mentor
      • Monthly face-to-face training (48 hours)

     

    Flexible Hours for additional training - $0 (No additional fee) 

    • Additional ESC-20 approved professional development 
    • ESC-20 Beginning Teacher Support – 50 hours

    Total Program Cost: $5,200

    JROTC Opportunities

    • Become a certified teacher - $1600 
    • Become a certified administrator - $6500
